AECP PRESENTS SPECIAL AWARDS AT ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
- Fred Gross who recently retired form People, Inc. in Abingdon, VA was honored for 20 years of service to AECP as a Board member and past President. Fred earned the nickname "The Weatherization Warrior" for his tireless work on behalf of the program and as Weatherization Coordinator for People, Inc.
- Mark Marshpund with Elderhomes of Richmond, VA was presented the Thomas E. Daniel Humanitarian Award for his compassionate work with weatherization clients. The award was given to honor the great work of Tom Daniel who was an AECP charter Board member and who passed away the year before.
- Anthony Cox with Community Housing Partners and John Langford with J&J Weatherization were presented with Doctor of Weatherization diplomas for there long time service to the program as trainers, practitioners, and national leaders in new technologies.
AECP HOLDS 12TH ANNUAL GREEN LIVING AND ENERGY EXPO
AECP held it Expo on November 3 and 4, 2011 at the Roanoke Civic center. It was a major success and attendance was very high. Exhibitors reported later on the many sales they experienced as a result of the Expo.
AECP HOLDS TWO PEER EXCHANGES IN 2011
- The first event was held in Roanoke, VA on April 19 and 20, 2011.
- The second event took place on October 13, 2011. The AECP Peer Exchanges are opportunities for Weatherization program staff, crew and administrators to come together and discuss important issues and to make comments, ask questions, express concerns and provide solutions.
SUSTAINABLE LIVING EDUCATION CENTER (SLEC) ADDS SOLAR PANELS
SLEC, which is an AECP managed educational center located at the AECP office in Floyd, VA installed 500 watts of solar power, which will be net metered, and will help provide solar powered electricity to SLEC and the AECP office. This will work in conjunction with the existing 1000 watts of wind energy and 150 watts of solar already installed at SLEC. These systems are part of AECP's desire to educate people about renewable energy by interacting with functioning systems at work. Direct Connect Solar and Electric, an AECP member, provided all of the labor at no cost.
