We exist to provide, promote, and advocate energy conservation.

  • Water heating can account for almost 15% of your energy bill.
  • Use less hot water by turning down the thermostat on your water heater and by using cold water to wash clothes.
  • Insulate your hot water tank and insulate the hot water lines – but do not cover the thermostat.
  • Be careful not to cover the top, bottom, thermostat or burner compartment when insulating a gas or oil fired water heater.
  • Some water heaters are already insulated and wrapping them can damage the unit. Check the labels on the water heater.
  • Use an energy efficient water heater.
  • Repair any water leaks that are associated with your hot water tank.
  • Consider installing a solar hot water heater. They are environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
  • Take more showers than baths. Bathing uses the most hot water in the average household.
  • Consider the installation of a drain water waste heat recovery system.
  • Always examine the EnergyGuide label to compare energy usage and cost before buying a new water heater.
