AECP PARTICIPATES IN DOE REGIONAL CONFERENCE
AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld, led a workshop at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Regional Weatherization Conference in South Carolina on December 2, 2008. The title of the workshop was “Weatherization and the Green Workforce”.
AECP PRESENTS AT THIRD THURSDAY EVENT
On November 20, 2008 AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld, did a presentation on “Non-Profits Going Green: Tips For Greening Your Office and Organization” at the Third Thursday monthly meeting in Blacksburg. The Third Thursday group provides monthly workshops and presentations to a wide variety of non-profit organizations in the New River Valley.
AECP CONCLUDES NINTH ANNUAL GREEN LIVING AND ENERGY EXPO
AECP held its ninth annual Green Living and Energy Expo at the Roanoke Civic Center on November 7 and 8, 2008. The event had 90 exhibits, over 2500 people attending, presentations and workshops, an activity area for youth, and a silent auction. It was a major success.
AECP PRESENTS AT COLLEGES
AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld, made a presentation to students at Roanoke College on November 12, 2008 and to students at Virginia Western Community College on November 14, 2008. Both presentations were on “Saving Energy in the Home”.
AECP FORMS NEW BOARD
The AECP Board of Directors voted to form a new Board to provide direction and oversight to it’s sister organization the Association of Energy Conservation Professionals Education Service (AECP/ES). The new Board had its first meeting in Roanoke, VA on September 24, 2008. New AECP/ES Board members are:

AECP SERVES ON SCC ADVISORY BOARD
AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld, is serving on the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) Advisory Board, which is developing a statewide consumer energy education program. This effort came out of the SCC consumer education study group, which Mr. Weitzenfeld co-chaired, that was looking at ways to reduce electricity consumption in Virginia by 10% in the next several years.
AECP WORKS WITH THE VIRGINIA SIERRA CLUB TO SEEK FUNDING FOR WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM
AECP President, Bill Beachy and AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld have been participating in an effort spearheaded by the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club to establish a Public Benefit Fund (PBF) in Virginia, which would provide funding to the Virginia Weatherization Program. In order for a PBF to be established legislation by the Virginia General Assembly would be necessary.
AECP HELPS APCO DEVELOP PROGRAMS FOR LOW-INCOME CUSTOMERS
AECP President, Bill Beachy and AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld are members of the Appalachian Power Company (APCO) Low-income Task Force. The purpose of the task force is to expand existing programs and develop new programs for low-income APCO customers in their West Virginia and Virginia service area. After several meetings a comprehensive plan has been developed and presented to the APCO President for approval. The plan involves providing weatherization services to eligible customers with the intent of reducing electricity consumption in those households.
AECP PARTICIPATES IN THE SOCIETY OF ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISTS (SEJ) ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
On October 16, 2008, AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld, made a presentation to a group of environmental journalists from all over the U.S. who were attending the Society of Environmental Journalists Annual Conference in Roanoke, VA. The presentation was entitled “The Impact of Energy Use on the Blue Ridge Parkway”. The presentation was part of several presentations made during a bus tour of the Parkway from Roanoke, VA to Floyd, VA.
AECP PRESENTS AT THE WESTERN VIRGINIA WATER AUTHORITY
On September 9, 2008 AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld, made two presentations to employees and staff of the Western Virginia Water Authority in Roanoke, VA. The title of the presentation was: “Saving Energy in the Home”.
AECP GLOBAL WARMING SEMINAR IS GREAT SUCCESS
AECP presented a seminar on global warming entitled “Global Warming: What is it and What can we do about it” on May 31, 2008 at the Jacksonville Center in Floyd, VA. Over 40 people attended the 10:00 – 4:00 event. The event was sponsored by Community Housing Partners and the Crater District Area Agency on Aging.
The attendees listened to several speakers discussing a wide variety of topics related to global warming. There were lively discussions, questions, and excellent dialogue. The purpose of the seminar was to present information designed to create a better understanding of a very complicated issue with the idea that the more we know about the problem then the better able we are to become part of the solution
AECP PARTICIPATES IN OHIO CONFERENCE
On June 26, 2008 AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld, made a presentation at the Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies annual summer conference. The title of the presentation was: “Integrating Green Techniques into the Weatherization Program”.
AECP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RECEIVES RADFORD UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATION
AECP Executive Director, Billy Weitzenfeld recently received the Nonprofit
Leadership and Management Development Certificate from Radford University.
To earn this certificate a participant must complete 80 hours of classes in
Board and Executive Relations, Leadership and Management Skills, Fund
Development and Marketing, and Business Management
