AECP DEVELOPS Q&A FORUM FOR MEMBERS

AECP designed and developed a conversational Forum for members to communicate with each other, to ask questions and provide answers and to send photos and documents. AECP members must create an account in order to log in to the Forum, which is located on the AECP website. They can then access different categories of information including Technical, Administrative, Financial and Legislative topics and ask questions and make comments. The hope is that this new Forum will promote communication and conversation within the Virginia Weatherization network.

AECP HOLDS 14^TH PEER EXCHANGE

AECP held a Peer Exchange on October 23 and 24, 2017 at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, VA. The first day began with Department of Housing and Community Development updates including funding and legislative information. This was followed by utility updates including a presentation by the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative concerning weatherization partnering opportunities. The day ended with a Technical Assistance Group (TAG) meeting. The second day was all about solar and the upcoming opportunities for installing solar panels on weatherized homes. There were presentations from Aaron Sutch, Executive Director of Virginia Sun, Rick Brown, solar contractor and owner of Solshine Energy Alternatives and Josh Olsen with the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) discussing the new initiative by DOE to encourage a process whereby weatherized homes would be eligible for the addition of solar electricity.

AECP BEGINS INSPECTING APCO WEATHERIZATION JOBS

AECP in a contracting role will inspect weatherization jobs that used Appalachian Power Company (APCO) funds to supplement energy efficiency measures on homes. The inspections will focus on only work that was done using the APCO funds. This will provide a third party  quality control process and also allow for some positive interaction with the programs and the clients.

“VIRGINIA WEATHERIZATION STORY” IS 20 YEARS OLD

 The “Virginia Weatherization Story”, which was the first in a series of AECP video productions was completed in 1997. The video used interviews with crew, staff, and clients and footage of actual field work to tell a story about the positive impact of the program. Over the years it has remained an enjoyable and educational tool to spread the word about the weatherization process, the people involved and the history of the program. Other AECP videos include “Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer” and “The Weatherization Assistance Program: A Program That Works”.
